Pharmacy – it’s time to wake up!

There aren’t many tweets that have given me sleepless nights. However this particular one has given me a dose of insomnia, panic, and I feel that some depression may have set in too. It seems that pharmacists have simply lost control of their destiny.

Pharmacy as a world is weak on its knees and may soon tumble down and fall hard. I have been trying to get pharmacists locally to unite and have a single voice. It works for a while and then we go back a step and fit into our normal routine of standing still!

If we rely on agencies and other professionals to create our pathways and our position in the new NHS, we soon will be pushed out of the circle of patient care. The danger too, as always, pharmacists will end up doing things without any commissioning. We always give away freebies, but we never consolidate on trying to get payments for our hardwork.

Pharmacists, it’s time to wake up … unite … commission for services nationally, not just focusing locally. We no longer can be competitors, but must work together simply to survive.
