So, why a selfie? Well, in this new age of digital, there are more selfians amongst us than any other race, religion or following … no evidence behind this, just an observation of mine đ
When I first supported this charity it was to engage the public into pharmacy for advice. Many women, and men, are diagnosed with breast cancer. So why head to a pharmacy? My aim is not to get all those with warning symptoms to the pharmacy – if you have any of the following symptoms then please go straight to your GP. Don’t be scared, the sooner you address it, the better your outcomes. These symptoms include; a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, or a red scaly patch of skin, or anything unusual. The aim to get as many of the community into pharmacy is to look at your risk factors, and then minimising them.
Risk factors for developing breast cancer include obesity, lack of physical exercise, drinking alcohol, hormone replacement therapy during menopause, ionizing radiation, early age at first menstruation, and having children late or not at all. Most risk factors can be addressed at your local pharmacy. Many services are available, including helping you to quit smoking, losing weight, eating healthy, alcohol advice, medication reviews and much more.
So – why a selfie? Why am I asking everyone to take a selfie in pink and create this craze of #pinkpharm? As many selfians know … when you take a selfie it will forever engrave in your selfie brain bank. Each selfian knows where, when and why their selfie was taken.
This is why a selfie! Wear something pink, paint your room pink, hold a pink wand, just make anything pink visible in your selfie! But, engrave why you took this selfie. And each time you see pink, the selfian within you will shout out … let’s all fight in the face of cancer!
The WEARitPINK #pinkpharm selfie EVENT is for all those sufferers, survivors, supporters and selfians out there to unite in the aim to find the cure.
Calling the selfian within you to take a pink selfie now and email it to pink@dearpharmcist.info
